Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) provides an avenue for persons with significant communication challenges to express themselves in their homes, schools and vocational sites, as well as in interacting with medical professionals and the community at large.
Our AAC team serves infants, children and adults with developmental or acquired disabilities and is available on a contractual basis to: determine if an individual would benefit from an AAC system, utilize our evaluation library of AAC equipment to match the individual with the most appropriate system and to recommend a functional AAC system, communication strategies and team training.
CPNJ staff will work with the consumer and the members of his or her team to secure purchase of an appropriate AAC system. We have experience in working with insurance carriers, including Medicare and Medicaid, and school districts. We will answer questions, provide detailed information and explain the rationale for and the potential of the system. Once a system is obtained, a detailed plan can be developed for integrating the AAC system into aspects of the person's life.
